What started as a pastime while walking home from work, finding wires on the ground, and folding them into little men to leave as a decoration on the streets, quickly took on a life of it's own. Something strange happened, these little men became a catalyst for connection, putting me in contact with a community of artists and people that was otherwise hidden to me.
The little man became a symbol of companionship. In a city or place where you might feel alone, it's nice to consider that someone has been where you are, walked a similar path, and made it home. There is so much to be said about how much I've learned from this project, from considering the material used in to create each iteration. Always different, different in gauge, temper, length, and so many factors that make each version unique. I was able to reflect on the nature of each of us who might come into contact with a "monito".
Monos also helped me reconsider and shape my view of the built environment, and the ever changing urban condition finding places that might house a little guy. I'll share with you a selection of little men, in hopes that you might one day come across one and feel a little more connected with the world around you.
